Submissions

We invite all graduate and undergraduate students studying bioinformatics, biomedical computing, biomedical engineering, or a related field to their work to CSCBCE. We have the following categories of publications:

  • A full paper of 3-4 pages. The best papers will be considered for oral presentation. Papers that are not accepted will automatically be considered for poster presentation.
  • A previously presented paper. We will accept papers previously published for oral presentation. However, you should comment in the abstract of the paper that it was published before, since we cannot reproduce them in the proceedings.
  • Standard poster. Accepted submissions will be invited to go on display during the relevant poster session.
  • Highlights poster. Authors are invited to submit an abstract of significant work published within the last year by the submitting author. Reference to the original publication is required.

All submissions will be peer-reviewed by students. Accepted full papers and poster abstracts will appear in the proceedings.

EasyChair

We are using EasyChair to manage the submission and review process. For all submissions please go to the CSCBCE 2010 page on EasyChair and click on the "New Submission" link. If you do not have an EasyChair account, you will need to create one here.

Submitting a paper

Please format the paper using the templates provided for you. We will be providing all attendees with a print copy of the proceedings, and therefore proper formatting is important for the layout.
Here are our templates: LaTeX, Word, and Word 2007.

Your submission should be three to four pages in length. Once you are satisfied with your submission, convert it to PDF and submit it. You can submit new versions later if you make changes before the deadline.

For the initial paper submission, only the PDF file is required. If your paper is accepted for publication, you should submit all source files along with the PDF for the camera-ready version, with all figures and references in camera-ready form.

Submitting a poster

For a poster, you need only submit an abstract of no more than 300 words, formatted according to our templates. You should submit the PDF file and all source files. Here are our templates: LaTeX, Word, and Word 2007.

If your poster abstract is accepted, you should prepare the final poster to fit within a space 4 feet high by 3 feet wide (121.92cm by 91.44cm). For those used to ISO paper sizes and the metric system, this roughly corresponds to A0.

Converting to PDF

Microsoft Word 2007 can export files to PDF directly. The Open Office suite handles Word 2003 files and has built-in PDF export. Alternately, there is a free online service which will convert an uploaded Word file to PDF.

Eligibility

CSCBCE will only accept submissions for which a registered student is the first author. International students are eligible and welcome, but must be able to attend the conference to present their work.

Awards

There will be awards for the best paper presentations and posters in each category.

If you have any problems with the submission process contact Patrick Nicholson at p3nichol [at] cs.uwaterloo.ca.
