Congratulations to grad student Tiffany Inglis for winning first place in the
ACM Student Research Competition
at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. Tiffany moves on to the finals
(where posters from all conferences compete) in a few months. Her winning research poster is
here.

WICS sent 16 women to the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing,
thanks to funding from the School of Computer Science,
Mathematics Endowment Fund
,
Sybase, and Google.
Here is a summary of the experience.

UW teams were 1st, 2nd, and had an honourable mention in the annual
Games4Girls
Competition at the University of Illinois. Congratulations go to:
- 1st place team: Wing Shan (Sara) Kam and Denise Chan
- 2nd place team: Estelle Wan Pang Cheung, Christine Li, and Komal Sandhu
- Honourable Mention: Jennifer Qiao, Sasa Zhong, Yeming Ma, and Sammy Zhang
- Congratulations to Carol Fung and Jacqueline Mok for winning Canada Google
Anita Borg Memorial Scholarships this year!
Congratulations to Azin Ashkan and Wenye Yu for being finalists in this competition!

Panel Discussion on International Experiences in Academic CS
Friday March 2, 12 - 1 PM, DC 1304.
A highlight will be hearing Sandy Graham talk about her experience teaching at Waterloo's Dubai campus in Fall 2011, but we'll also have women grad students and postdocs talking about experiences in China, the US, Pakistan, and other places. Everyone (male and female) is welcome! Bring your lunch -- we'll have snacks and drinks available.

Lunch for Women at Grad Visit Day
Thursday March 1, 12 - 2 PM, M3 foyer.
Prospective female grad students meet with current female grad students during the Grad Visit Day.

BigCSsters Mentoring Program
This is mentoring program run by WICS to pair first year students with senior
students to receive advice and support. Sign ups for mentors and mentees
start just before September!
