Since the choices here are a product of our biases, it is only fair that I make those clear at the outset. We are a mixed-race family of four living in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. We do not watch television, and we attempt to avoid products with tie-ins (e.g. our house is a Barney-and-Barbie-free-zone). We strive to make the children aware of racial and gender biases, and try through our selection of books to illustrate the diversity of people and ideas.
The children were born in 1992 and 1995, so this information will primarily be of interest to those with children born in 1992 or later. Some of the pages are outdated as I haven't kept up with, for example, movies for toddlers.
I will be slowly adding to this list over time; if there is a particular section you would prefer for me to work on first, let me know and I will do my best to prioritize accordingly.
