Professor, BSc (Alberta '64), MSc (Alberta '66), PhD (Stanford '71)

I am interested in scientific computation generally, but mainly in numerical linear algebra. My primary focus is the (numerous and varied) problems associated with solving very large sparse systems of equations. Some examples include analysis of the complexity of certain algorithms, numerical stability issues, design of efficient data structures, design of software packages and good user interfaces, and automatic identification of exploitable parallelism in sparse matrix computations.
