Overview of PERC 4/SC and 4/DC

PERC 4 is a high-performance, intelligent peripheral component interconnect (PCI)-to-small computer system interface (SCSI) host adapter with RAID control capabilities. It provides reliability, high performance, fault-tolerant disk subsystem management, and is an ideal RAID solution for internal storage in Dell's workgroup, departmental, and enterprise systems. PERC 4 offers a cost-effective way to implement RAID in a server.

PERC 4 controllers are available with one or two SCSI channels:

PERC 4 supports both a low-voltage differential (LVD) SCSI bus or a single-ended (SE) SCSI bus. Using LVD, you can use cables up to 12 meters long. Throughput on each SCSI channel can be as high as 320 MB/s.

NOTE: Never attach a tape device to a channel that contains hard drives running in RAID mode. When you run a tape device on a dedicated channel of this controller in SCSI mode. For performance reasons, it is recommended that you don't have hard drives on the same channel.
