Dr. Tao Stein, Engineer, Facebook
The Facebook Social Graph contains 500 million people, the communication interactions and friendships between them, and other important entities such as groups, pages, and events. The Social Graph is an attractive target for attackers. They want to steal private information or expose people to spam. This technical talk will outline the challenges of protecting the graph and some of the approaches we have taken to protect people and their information.
Bio:
Tao Stein is an Engineer at Facebook. For the past two years he has been building large-scale computer systems to protect the social graph from numerous attacks. Prior to Facebook Tao was a Researcher at Microsoft Research Asia in Beijing, China for three years building experimental operating systems and systems for video distribution across the Chinese internet. Tao received a PhD in Computer Science from Harvard University where he researched operating systems and distributed file systems. A native of Ottawa, Canada, Tao graduated from Queen's University School of Business where he studied Commerce and Finance.
