Professor Ilyas's research interests are in area of database systems, with special interest in top-k and rank-aware query processing, managing uncertain and probabilistic databases, self-managing databases, indexing techniques, and spatial databases. Professor Ilyas's research is systems-oriented with an emphasis on prototype development and experimentation.
Early Researcher Award, Government of Ontario (2008-2011)
Professor Ilyas has spent two summers as a research intern with the optimizer group at IBM Almaden Research Center, where he worked on core and challenging query processing and optimization problems. Currently, Professor Ilyas is an IBM CAS fellow, collaborating with IBM Toronto Lab in developing robust and adaptive statistics collection techniques for query optimization.
