Ashraf Aboulnaga, an associate professor at the David Cheriton School of Computer Science, was recently elected as a senior member of both the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
ACM and IEEE only reserve senior membership for exceptional professionals. “Both of these associations require one to have at least ten years of professional experience with five years of continuous professional membership demonstrating ‘performance that sets them apart from their peers’ or ‘significant performance’ during five of these years,” says Tamer Özsu, the School’s director.
To be awarded senior membership by ACM, Ashraf also had to gain the endorsement of at least three of his professional colleagues.
These distinctions prove testament to Ashraf's excellent research in the area of data management, in particular self-managing database systems and data management for the web.
Congratulations Ashraf!
