Matt Armstrong, Associate Director of the Software Engineering program will be leaving UW to head west once again. The Calgary Stampeders have signed the 2-time Warriors captain as place kicker and punter. Matt will be taking a leave from UW to head out to the Stamps training camp next month.
Matt's multi-facetted career here has been impressive any way you look at it. From a CS student's point of view, he has been a popular instructor. From the view of the CS administration, he has been the associate director of the Software Engineering Program. From a UW sports fan's viewpoint, he has been a stalwart of the Warrior's football team, a captain for two seasons, a 4 time Ontario all star, and an All-Canadian selection in 2001.
His connection with UW started over a decade ago; Matt was an undergraduate here (CS and C&O Coop, '97) and then completed a Master's degree under the supervision of Professor Joanne Atlee in 1998. His first trip out west was a two year stint in Silicon Valley before returning to UW for phase two of his career here. He joined the Software Engineering program as Lecturer and Associate Director before the first students started in September 2001.
We enthusiastically wish Matt a fine sojourn with the CFL. And after that? Maybe we will have the opportunity to welcome him back to UW.
